The New Microsoft SQL Server 2005 BI System Means Better Access to iSeries Data — and More Hours in the Day

It's every busy executive's dream — to get more hours out of a day. That dream came true for Grimco Inc., a sign products wholesaler headquartered in Missouri. A new Microsoft business intelligence system designed by Advanced System Designs of Morton, Illinois, gave Grimco's managers back more than an hour every day plus the information they need to grow their business.

"We have 19 locations and generate about two reports per location," says Bob Hummert, Grimco CEO. "That's 38 reports, and our managers would spend about an hour every morning running the reports, posting the data in an Excel spreadsheet, and then posting that data on SharePoint portal server so everyone could look at it. That's a lot of time when managers aren't managing — they're spending time running reports."

Grimco uses an IBM Model 810 iSeries with a robust set of applications customized for the company. While the applications do a great job of running the business, it is very difficult for users to access the data when they need it and in a format they like.

An ASD seminar intrigued Grimco administrators about the possibility of using a Microsoft BI solution that would give managers and employees better, faster access to the information they needed every day to make good business decisions.
